How to Bake Our Pie Crust
- Follow your pie recipe. That's really it. Our take-and-bake pie crusts are made to work with any standard 9-inch pie recipe — sweet or savory.
- If your recipe says to par-bake the crust first (common for cream pies, quiches, and custard pies), go ahead and do that according to your recipe's temperature and time.
- If your recipe says to add the filling and bake it all together (typical for fruit pies, pecan pie, pumpkin pie), do that instead.
Pro Tip Your oven is never fully pre-heated when it beeps! Let it pre-heat another 20 minutes after it says it's ready, regardless of which method you use.
- No guesswork here — your pie recipe will guide you every step of the way. Enjoy!
Pro Tips for Perfect Pies
Egg wash the edges in the last 10 minutes of baking for a beautiful golden-brown crust.
Use a pie shield or foil ring if the edges are browning faster than the filling is setting. This is especially helpful for long-bake pies like pecan or pumpkin.
For cream pies and quiches always par-bake the crust first so the bottom doesn’t get soggy when the filling is added.
Let cooked pies cool fully before slicing — at least 2 hours for cream pies, 4 hours for fruit pies. We know it’s hard to wait.
Travel tip: If you’re transporting your pie, let it cool completely first, then cover loosely with foil. Don’t put plastic wrap directly on a warm pie — condensation will make the crust soggy.
Storage & Reheating
Storing Your Pie Crust Before You Use It
Keep unbaked pie crusts in the freezer until you’re ready to bake. No need to defrost before adding fillings — most recipes work fine with a frozen crust. After your pie is fully baked, follow the cooling and storage instructions from your pie recipe (most fruit pies keep at room temp for 2 days, custard or cream pies should be refrigerated).
Pie Crust FAQs
Is your pie crust safe for someone with celiac disease?
Is the crust dairy-free, vegan, or egg-free?
We currently only sell our dairy-free pie crust — so yes, it’s dairy-free for everyone. It does contain egg, and we don’t offer an egg-free version. Because it contains egg, it’s also not vegan.
Do I need to defrost the crust before using it?
What size pie does this make?
Can I make a double-crust pie?
Our pre-formed crusts work best for single-crust pies (bottom crust only). For double-crust pies like apple, we recommend asking us about ordering raw pie dough — give us a call at (270) 551-4440.
Do you keep pie crusts in stock or do I need to pre-order?
Pie crust availability varies by season — they sell out quickly around major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter). Pre-ordering is highly recommended, especially in October/November. Call us at (270) 551-4440 to check current stock.
